A Hartley Wintney pub has won acclaim for its fantastic wine offer.

The Phoenix Inn in Phoenix Green, London Road, has been named as joint winner of the title ‘Best Wine Pub 2013’ for the South East and London region in the BT Sport Great British Pub Awards 2013.

The awards are organised by leading pub industry magazine, the Publican’s Morning Advertiser.

Its editor, Rob Willock, says: “The licensees are passionate about wine and this is evident in the range and choice of wines at the pub.

“The Phoenix Inn offers 44 wines on its list, 21 of which are served by the glass.

“One of their great initiatives is The Carnivore’s Club; a four course dinner with matching wines.

“The monthly event is the most popular on the pub’s calendar and the licensees often use the event to introduce new wines and showcase them to their customers.

“Staff receive regular training sessions and also have an input in choices for new wine lists.”

The pub is run by licensee Sisi Ryder.

The Phoenix Inn will now go forward to the BT Sport Great British Pub Awards 2013 final, held at the Hilton Hotel, Park Lane, London, on Thursday September 12 and hosted by actor and comedian Greg Davies.

It will go head to head with five other regional winners for the UK title ‘Best Wine Pub 2013’ and also have the opportunity to compete for the overall title of Great British Pub of the Year.
